CHARIKAR with northern provinces, has been blocked to traffic since Thursday evening due to floods triggered by heavy rains in central Parwan province, officials said on Friday.
Floodwaters emerging at a dozen locations on both sides of the 2,673-metre-long Soviet-built Salang tunnel, left a large number of vehicles stranded since Thursday evening, deputy public works minister, Ahmad Shah Waheed, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The highway had been blocked at several locations by mud and debris brought by flooding, he said and hoped the highway would be reopened until Friday afternoon.
Traffic official Mohammad Yunus Pardesi said that efforts were in place to reopen the road as soon as possible. He said they stopped vehicles from passing the road due to slippery conditions.
