PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): A dozen people have been killed and another five were missing after flash floods unleashed by heavy rains struck northern Baghlan province, officials said on Saturday.

The floods swept through different parts of Khanjan, Andarab, Dushi and Tala Wa Barfak districts, killing of a dozen of people and causing property damages, regional head of National Disaster Management Authority, Mohammad Naseer Kuhzad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The dead included five people from the same family, and two others were killed in Dushi district and five more lost their lives in Tala Wa Barfak district, he said. A survey team had been dispatched to the affected areas to assess losses, he added.

Floodwaters also destroyed a gate of a water dam supplying electricity to the provincial capital, Pul-i-Khumri, a worker at the dam, Ahmad Javed, said.

“Power supply has been suspended to the city after the gate was destroyed by flooding,” he said, adding the restoration of power would take some time.
