ZARANJ (PAN): Twenty-one prisoners were released from a prison and another 73 inmates got their jail terms slashed under a presidential decree in southwestern Nimroz province, an official said on Tuesday.

The prisoners were released in compliance with the presidential decree issued on the occasion of Mujahideen‘s victory day (April 28), Attaullah Fakri, provincial prisons’ chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The acting jail chief, Col. Najeebullah, said the jail built on one acre of land in a residential area had the capacity of housing 50 prisoners. He said currently there were 300 prisoners held up in the facility. He said the inmates were faced with a lack of space.

Neyaz Mohammad, one of the beneficiaries of the presidential decree, complained he was kept in a small cell, where no toilets or bathrooms were available.
