MAHMOOD RAQI (PAN): At least 10 people, including militants and a policeman, have been killed and several others wounded in a fresh spate of violence in different areas of the country, officials said on Thursday.

An armed conflict between two rival tribal militia commanders left three people, including the two commanders, dead in the central province of Kapisa on Thursday, an official said.

The infighting took place in Tatarkhel area of Tagab district in the afternoon, district police chief, Pacha Gul Bakhtyari, said.

The clash was a result of previous differences between the two tribal militia commanders, Ashraf and Lala Jan, he said.

But a local Taliban fighter claimed the two commanders were killed by their fighters, a claim dismissed by the district chief, Abdul Hakim Akhundzada.

Elsewhere, three Taliban fighters were killed and eight guards of a private security were wounded during a clash in central Maidan Wardak province, an official said.

The clash broke out after a group of militants attacked a convoy of foreign soldiers in Sayedabad district on Wednesday, the governor’s spokesman said.

One truck carrying supplies for foreign soldiers was destroyed as a result of the overnight clash, Shahidullah Sahhid, said. But a regional Taliban commander, Mullah Daud, said their fighters killed 12 guards escorting the convoy.

He said two of their fighters were killed. Four trucks were set ablaze during the assault in Aziz Qala area, he said.

The Kabul-Kandahar highway remained closed for two hours due to the clash.

In northern Jawzjan, three Taliban fighters were killed when they attacked a police checkpoint in Sardara village of Darzab district on Thursday afternoon, police chief, Abdul Aziz Ghairat said.

Another three militants were wounded in the clash. A number of motorbikes were recovered from the site of the clash, he said, adding one policeman was also killed and a second sustained injuries.
