JALALABAD (PAN): Police recovered 143 kilograms of heroin from two vehicles over the past 48 hours in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Thursday.

Eighty-nine kilograms of heroin were recovered from a truck during a search at the Samarkhel police checkpoint, about 15 kilometres east of Jalalabad City, on Wednesday, police chief, Brig. Gen. Ali Shah Paktiawal, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Two brothers, Mohammad Alam and Asadullah, were detained in connection with the drugs, he said.

Meanwhile, police seized 54 kilograms of heroin from another truck on Tuesday in Lalpoor district, a statement from the police headquarters said. Two people were also detained, it added.

In southern Ghazni province, 500 military uniforms were seized from a shop by officials of National Directorate of Security (NDS), the governor’s office said.

The uniforms were being sold illegally because their sale had been prohibited, the statement said.

Meanwhile, explosives, ammunitions and hand grenades and electric wires were seized by NDS officials during an operation in Ghazni City, the statement said.
