Militant groups join peace process in Laghman
The groups led by Mullah Niamatullah and Mohammad Anwar joined the Afghan government-initiated peace process in Ali Shang district, the National Directorate of Security said a statement.
The groups had been active against government and foreign troops on the Kabul-Nangarhar highway, it said.
Meanwhile, three Taliban fighters, accused of targeting military convoys on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in central Maidan Wardak and Ghazni provinces, had been arrested, the statement said. It identified the detainees as Rahmatullah, Wahidullah and Taaj Mohammad.
The three had confessed to their crimes and said they were operating under the command of Mullah Abdul Rahmani Rahmani, a mastermind behind a number of insurgent attacks against convoys of Afghan and foreign soldiers, the statement concluded.
