KABUL): Up to 140 new judges were on Monday conferred degrees during a graduation ceremony in Kabul, a statement said.
Justice Abdul Salam Azimi, the Chief Justice of Afghanistan Supreme Court and US ambassador Hans G. Klemm, Coordinating Director for Rule of Law and Law Enforcement, attended the 26th Annual Judicial Stage Graduation Ceremony at the Ministerial Palace, the United Stated Agency for International Development said in a statement.
The programme trains law, Shari’a, and Madrassa graduates to become judges, it said, adding 140 new judges were conferred degrees this year under the programme.
Addressing the graduating class, Klemm encouraged students to continue to strive to improve themselves through their continued pursuit of knowledge.
In his keynote address to the new judges, Chief Justice Azimi said: “You should be committed to fight sincerely against injustice. If you favour national interests, Afghanistan will develop and you as citizens of this country will also become prosperous.”
