Four more civilians killed in Kunar
ASADABAD (PAN): Taliban fighters allegedly fired several mortar shells into a district bazaar in eastern Kunar province early on Monday, killing four civilians and injuring eight others, including six women, officials said.
The shelling hit Khonan bazaar of Watapur district at 10:30am, police chief, Brig. Gen. Khalilullah Ziaee, told Pajhwok Afghan News. Some shells landed in the bazaar and others struck nearby houses, leaving two young boys and a child dead and nine others, including six women, injured, he said.
The injured were taken to the Asadabad civil hospital, where one of them succumbed to his wounds, the hospital head, Dr. Farooq Sahak, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The remaining eight wounded people are in a stable condition, he said.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, expressed his sorrow over civilian casualties, saying they had launched an investigation.
Civilians have been killed by Taliban and foreign troops in the ongoing conflict. An eight-year-old boy was killed and his three family members were injured on Sunday by NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Ghaziabad district.
