KABUL): India has pledged equipping a diagnostic clinic for children at the Indira Gandhi Children’s hospital located in Kabul with sophisticated technology, but the pledge remains unfulfilled over the past four years, officials said on Tuesday.

In January, 2008, Indian ambassador to Afghanistan announced during a function that his country would provide the Sehat-i-Tafal clinic with modern technology equipment including CT scan, MRI, ECHO, cardiograph, electrocardiography, and coloured X-rays machines at a cost of $3 million (137,940,000 afs) within next six months.

“Still the clinic does not have the said facilities,” the clinic head, Dr. Bashir Ahmad Quraishi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

“We have time and again contacted the Indian embassy, but each time they promised the equipment will be delivered to us soon,” he said.

Four Indian physicians working at the hospital died in February 2010 Kabul attack by Taliban centres in Kabul and the country had limited its assistance in medicine for hospitals.

Indian premier Manmohan Singh during his visit to Kabul on May 14 announced an additional assistance of $500 million to Afghanistan, taking the country’s overall assistance to $1.5 billion since 2002.
