KABUL): The country’s proposed media law, aimed at regulating licensing of media outlets and defining duties and conditions related to media, is expected to be ready by next two weeks, a senior information and culture ministry official said on Wednesday.

The draft law on media was near finalisation and regulations for operations of media outlets and the ethics of reporting had already been finalised, deputy information and culture minister, Din Mohammad Mubariz Rashidi, told Pajhwok Afghan News. Some confusing parts of the law were being clarified, he said.

Elaborating, he said, the ministry officials and civil society members were working to define the work area of the media high council and commission.

“The proposed law will resolve the problem that some officials do not want to share information with media,” he added.

“When we have this law, officials will not be able to escape from sharing information with media, and if they did so, they will stand trial for that,” the official said.

The ethics of journalism were being prepared by the ministry with the help of journalists, Rashidi said, adding the law would help Afghan and foreign journalists know their ethics while in the field.
