JALALABAD (PAN): A provincial council member survived a gun attack in eastern Nangarhar province, but his son was killed, police said on Friday.
Sabit Amir Mohammad was travelling in a car with his son when came under attack from unknown gunmen in the Ahangran area of Darra Noor district late on Thursday, police chief, Brig. Gen. Ali Shah Paktiawal, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The lawmaker, who had a personal feud with a police commander, escaped unhurt in the attack, but his son was killed, Paktiawal said.
The police chief did not name anyone behind the attack, but said an investigation had been opened.
Amir Mohammad told Pajhwok Afghan News that they were heading toward home when came under attack from unknown gunmen in Ahangran village. His 20-year-old son, who was a 12 grade student, died in the attack, he said.
He said the attackers were riding in a police pick vehicle. “I know who they are, but I would not name them,” Amir Mohammad said.
