37 uplift schemes executed in Samangan

AIBAK (PAN): Thirty-seven development schemes, benefitting nearly 13,000 families, have been executed in the northern province of Samangan, an official said on Saturday.

The projects included four micro hydropower units, a 31-kilometre road, 11 small bridges, five water reservoirs, a retaining wall, 10 canals and 31 wells, said the provincial National Solidarity Programme (NSP) head.

Syed Mohammad Mohammadi told Pajhwok Afghan News 10 courses in carpet weaving, tailoring and embroidery for women were part of the schemes that cost 35.8 million afghanis.

“It’s beyond my expectations that I would see my village having electricity in my lifetime,” said Fazal Ahmad, a resident of the Mangak village of Roy Doab district.

Rural rehabilitation and development officials say so far 138 welfare projects have been completed in the district, with work on another 1,385 schemes underway.
