KABUL and the United States of America this week, a foreign ministry official said on Sunday.

Afghanistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Javid Ludin, Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir and the US Special Representative Marc Grossman would take part in the meeting, the foreign ministry spokesman said.

“The participants will try to convince Pakistan into contributing more to security in Afghanistan,” Ahmad Zahir Faqiri told Pajhwok Afghan News. The agenda for the meeting will be firmed up soon.

Since the killing of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden during a US raid on a compound in Abbottabad on May 2, Pakistan has been under tremendous international pressure to do more to combat terrorism.

Although the spokesman did not reveal an exact date, the press attaché at the Pakistan embassy, Ghulam Mohammad Wazir, said the trilateral meeting would be held on May 24. Bashir will pay a two-day visit to Kabul in response to an invitation from Ludin.

Meanwhile, the US embassy in Kabul confirmed that Grossman would attend the meeting along with Chargé d’Affaires E. Anthony Wayne and US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter.
