5 NATO-led troops killed in east

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Five foreign troops were killed in improvised explosive device attacks in eastern Afghanistaninfo-icon on Monday, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon) said.

The deaths were announced in a brief statement from the NATOinfo-icon-led force that neither revealed nationalities of the fallen soldiers nor the exact location of the bomb attack.

A day earlier, an ISAF servicemember died in a similar assault in the same region, the multinational alliance said. Most of the forces in the east are American, but troops from other NATO countries also serving in the region.

The fresh fatalities bring to 177 the number of NATO-led soldiers killed in Afghanistan so far in 2011, Last year, 711 international soldiers died in the country.
