6 insurgents killed in Kunar clash

ASADABAD (PAN insurgents were killed during a clash with US troops in the eastern province of Kunar on Monday morning, officials said.

The battle erupted at 4am when the fighters attacked a convoy of US force in the Kandai area of Nurgal district, provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Khalilullah Ziyaee, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Several militants were killed and the bodies of three attackers — two of them in military uniforms — were left at the scene after retaliatory fire from the troops, he said.

The NATO) confirmed the clash, but gave no more details.

A rebel spokesman, meanwhile, said the assailants fired two rockets at the US convoy, destroying two military vehicles and killing 13 soldiers. Six attackers were killed in return fire from US soldiers, Zabihullah Mujahid added.
