Al Qaeda foreign fighter captured in Qalat
KABUL (PAN): A Germany-based Moroccan Al Qaeda foreign fighter facilitator was captured during a security operation in southern Zabul province, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Tuesday.
The man, detained in Qalat on May 8, provided details about his travel from Germany, the alliance said in a statement. The detainee watched foreigners from many countries converging in Pakistan to conduct attacks against coalition forces in Afghanistan.
Afghan and NATO-led forces found passports and identification cards from France, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia amongst 10 insurgents killed during the operation, the statement added.
"During a delay in his travels in Iran, the facilitator stated he was approached to become a suicide bomber. However, he declined because of his goal to take part in the Global Jihad," the multinational force said.
