SHIBERGHAN (PAN): Militants torched three towers of private mobile phone companies in northern Jawzjan and central Logar provinces, officials said on Wednesday.
Roshan and Afghan Wireless Communication Company (AWCC) towers were burnt in Mohammad Agha district of Logar on Wednesday morning, the district chief, Abdul Hameed Hamid, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
No one has for far been detained in connection with the attack, said provincial police chief, Col. Ghulam Sakhi Rogh Lewanai. The companies have been switching off their towers at night since March due to threats from Taliban.
AWCC provincial chief, Lotfullah, said they had sent a delegation to the district to investigate the incident.
Separately, the insurgents torched another Roshan booster in Darz Ab district of Jawzjan.
The district chief, Mohammad Rahimi, said the Taliban attacked the antenna late on Tuesday night when workers were sleeping.
“I heard the sound of motorcycles at midnight and then saw the Roshan mobile tower aflame,” said resident Khair Mohammad, 32.
A mobile company official in the province, who did not want to be named, confirmed the attack.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the assault, saying officials of the company had flouted their order to switch off the booster at night.
