Kunduz bombing leaves German soldier dead

Kunduz bombing leaves German soldier dead

May 26, 2011 - 16:23

KUNDUZ CITY (PANinfo-icon): A NATOinfo-icon-led soldier from Germany was killed in a roadside bombing in northern Kunduz province, a local official said on Thursday.

The incident took place in Chardara district where an ISAFinfo-icon patrol vehicle hit a roadside bomb, the district chief told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Another soldier was wounded along with his Afghan interpreter, Abdul Momin said, adding ISAF troops cordoned off the site soon after the explosion.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the Talibaninfo-icon spokesman, claimed responsibility for the bomb attack, saying four German soldiers were killed and one of their tanks destroyed.

Since the 2001 ouster of the Taliban regime, 49 German soldiers have been killed in the Afghanistaninfo-icon. Germany has 4,800 troops in Afghanistan, most of them deployed to the northern and northeast.
