ASADABAD (PAN): A man was arrested for carrying weapons and hand grenades in a gas cylinder to the central prison in eastern Kunar province, an official said on Saturday.

The detainee identified as Ahmad Shah, a resident Narang district, wanted to enter the jail with two pistols, five hand grenades, two daggers and bullets, concealed in a gas cylinder.

Provincial counterterrorism chief, Col. Abdul Matin, said the man was detained. Two prisoners, Inayatullah and Hafiz, had asked Shah to supply them the weapons, the official added.

However, Shah told Pajhwok Afghan News a gas dealer in the Kerali market in Asadabad had given him the cylinder for delivery to the prisoners. “I did not know that weapons and grenades had been placed in the cylinder.”
