KABUL): Former intelligence chief, Amrullah Saleh, on Saturday said Afghans wanted peace in the country and that the war was no solution to the conflict.
“We want peace and war is not a solution,” Saleh said told participants of a gathering marking the 64th birthday of Abdul Ali Mazari, the former head of Wahdat-i-Milli Afghanistan, political party.
Mazari was killed by Taliban on March 13, 1995 in southern Ghazni province.
He said he was supportive of the peace talks with the rebels if they lay down their weapons and accept the constitution.
The former National Directorate of Security chief urged the Afghan government to protect achievements it had made so far over the last ten years. He also said the government should have a particular definition for the enemy.
On May 5, Saleh at a massive anti-Taliban gathering in Kabul had warned the government of public upraising over its peace plan.
