KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): The second section of the 205th Atal Military Corps Hospital has been constructed at a cost of $4 million (185 million afghanis) in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Tuesday.

Major Gen. Abdul Qayyum Totakhel, director-general of the health department in the defence ministry, Atal Military Corps Commander Gen. Abdul Hameed, and provincial council members participated in the opening ceremony.

The Kandahar University chancellor, religious scholars and some foreign military officials were also present at the ceremony for the hospital, constructed in two years with assistance from the US government.

Gen. Abdul Hameed told Pajhwok Afghan News the hospital — equipped with modern technology and tools — would benefit both military officials and civilians.

“The hospital is a remarkable achievement, and we will do our best to meet international standards,” Gen. Totakhel said. $1.5milion medical equipment was purchased for the medical facility with US financial assistance.
