LASHKARGAH (PAN): A commander was among nine insurgents killed by their own explosives in the volatile Marja district of southern Zabul province, an official said on Wednesday.
The militants were transporting the explosives in a tractor to the district when the explosion took place on Tuesday evening, killing all on board the vehicle, a security advisor to the governor said.
Abdul Ali Shamsi told Pajhwok Afghan News identified the dead rebel commander as Sahar. The rebels wanted to use the explosives in attacks on security posts, he said.
A regional Taliban commander confirmed the blast and the deaths.
Meanwhile, two policemen were wounded in a bomb attack in Lashkargah, the provincial capital, on Wednesday morning.
The blast took place in the Wali Karam area, said the deputy police chief, Col. Kamaluddin Sherzai. It was a remotely-controlled blast that targeted the vehicle of a senior security official, who escaped unhurt but two policemen were wounded.
