QALAT (PAN have released six tribal elders, 25 days after they were kidnapped in southern Zabul province on the charge of cooperating with the government, residents said on Wednesday.
The insurgents kidnapped nine elders, including Shinkai district council members. Three of them were later killed, and the remaining six freed on Tuesday night, said a resident of the district, Mohammad Hanif.
Local authorities confirmed the elders’ release, which came as a result of mediation from influential figures.
