WASGHINGTON (PAN): The US Department of Defense has welcomed a report about India’s pledge to provide help for strengthening Afghan security forces.

“We do not have any specifics on this, but if this is about helping to train Afghan national security forces, that is a positive thing,” a Pentagon spokesman said on Wednesday.

Col Dave Lapan said this when asked about New Delhi’s willingness for defence cooperation with Afghanistan. The pledge came during the current visit of Afghan Defence Minister Gen Abdul Rahim Wardak to India.

“Well, I do not know about the specific report. But our point has always been that the more support we can get in the training mission from NATO, other allies, we welcome,” he said.
