KABUL): An Iranian woman was sentenced by a primary court to 20 years in jail on the charge of drug trafficking, the Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) announced on Saturday.

The Iranian citizen was detained by counternarcotics police with more than nine kilograms of heroin that she was trying to her country through the Islam Qala dry port in western Herat province.

A statement from CJTF said she was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison during an open trial on the basis of evidence. She had a defence lawyer to plead her case.

Under the relevant law, the convict could move an appellant court before approaching the Supreme Court against the verdict.
