KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): The justice department head was injured in a gun attack on his car in southern Kandahar province on Saturday, police said.

Aqil Shah was travelling in the Deh Khwaja locality of the 16th police district of Kandahar City at around 2pm when two armed motorcyclists attacked him.

Shah was taken to a private hospital, the deputy police chief, Col. Sher Shah Yousafzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News. Later, he was referred to the Mirwais Civil Hospital.

The assailants managed to flee the scene, but a search operation was underway, the police official said.

A doctor, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Shah had received bullet injuries in one of his arms. However, he said the director was in stable condition.

The incident came hours after two back-to-back explosions rocked the Kandahar University, killing a student and wounding three others.
