JALALABAD (PAN‘s eastern provinces on Sunday, officials said.
Funded by the World Organisation (WHO), the United Nations International Children Fund (UNICEF) and non-governmental organisations, the drive covers Kunar, Nuristan, Laghman and Nangarhar provinces.
Public Health Director Dr. Baz Mohammad Sherzad told Pajhwok Afghan News the campaign, involving 5,512 volunteers, was aimed at administering polio drops to 771,411 children at 52 health centres.
Earlier, health workers had to face security problems in Nuristan, but the issue was resolved as a result of efforts by tribal elders and religious scholars, the director said.
Upper House member from Nangarhar, Lotfullah Baba, urged campaigners to travel to each part of the province without any fear. He asked fighters and tribal elders to cooperate with volunteers in making the drive a success in their respective areas.
