ASADABAD (PAN): A newly-constructed building for the border police headquarters was inaugurated near the Pakistani border in eastern Kunar province on Sunday, the governor said.

The US-funded facility that cost $6 million would help improve the performance of border police, Syed Fazlullah Wahidi told Pajhwok Afghan News at the inauguration ceremony in the Thanar area.

He said Afghan forces were capable of defending the country’s frontiers if they were provided with modern equipment and training.

The facility has 11 blocks, an arms depot and oil storage and accommodation for 100 policemen, according to the governor. The building, spread over 6.5 acres of land, took two years to complete.

Wahidi called on the Taliban projects.
