KANDAHAR CITY/PUL-I-ALAM (PAN insurgents, including a commander killed, were killed in southern Kandahar province, officials said on Monday.

A key rebel commander was killed during a joint operation by Afghan and international troops, provincial police chief, Gen. Abdul Razaq, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The commander, Mullah Sirajuddin, was blamed for disruptive activities in Spin Boldak, Arghistan and Takhta Pul districts. He was killed in the operation in Omki area, the police chief said.

Separately, a policeman was killed and three civilians were injured on Sunday night when a patrol vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the Wesh area of Spin Boldak, said the district chief, Hajji Abdul Ghani.

Five Taliban fighters, including two commanders, were killed in a separate joint operation in Abu Muslim Khurasani area of Baraki Barak district in central Logar province.

The district chief, Mohammad Rahim Amin, identified the dead commanders as Maulvi Din Mohammad and Maulvi Rarid.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed two foreign soldiers were killed and four others injured. He acknowledged injuries to two rebels.

Separately, the bodies of two men were found in the Juma village on the outskirts of Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, said the Logar crime branch chief, Col. Mohammad Jan Abid.

The bodies were shifted to the forensic department for post mortem, said the governor’s spokesman, Din Mohammad Darwaish.

Forensic department chief, Dr. Daud, said three bodies — one in Afghan National Army (ANA) uniform — had been received and.

Documents show that one of victims was tailor with the US-led coalition forces and another an ANA soldier. The identity of the third man is yet to be established.
