ZARANJ (PAN): Two police officials, including a commander, were killed and a third injured in a militant attack in southwestern Nimroz province, an official said on Monday.

The overnight assault took place on a police checkpoint in the Shash Aab area of the Khashrod district, said Mohammad Hasham, the district chief.

Taliban fighters captured three policemen along with a Ranger vehicle and 10 weapons, he said. The police have begun a search operation for their captured colleagues. No suspects have been detained in connection with the incident.

Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi claimed that the fighters killed four policemen, including the commander, and seized seven Kalashnikovs, one machine gun, two hand grenade launchers, one rocket-propelled grenade, one machine gun, and explosives.
