KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): An improvised explosive device attack killed an international soldier in southern Afghanistaninfo-icon, the alliance said on Tuesday.

The International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon) service member died on Monday, according to a brief statement issued from the NATOinfo-icon-led force.

In line with its policy, ISAF neither revealed the nationality of the fallen soldier, nor the exact location of the incident.

Meanwhile, the Australian defence ministry announced that one of their soldiers was killed in a blast as he was attempting to defuse an explosives cache in southern Uruzgan province.

The soldier succumbed to his injuries at the military healthinfo-icon facility in Tirinkot, the Australian defence ministry said in a statement.

Nearly 1,550 Australian soldiers are deployed to Uruzgan. Twenty-seven of them have been killed in Afghanistan since 2001.
