Gold up, fuel down in Kabul

KABUL): The price of gold went up while the rate of fuel fell during the outgoing week in the capital Kabul, retailers said on Thursday.

One gram of Arabian gold sold for 2,000 afghanis and the same amount of the Iranian variety for 1,650afs, a jeweler in the Khair Khana neighbourhood said.

Abdul Baseer told Pajhwok Afghan News the fall was linked to the international market trend. Last week, one gram of Arabian gold cost 1,900afs and the same amount of Iranian gold 1,600afs.

Similarly, the rate of one litre of diesel decreased to 57afs from last week’s price of 58afs, a filling station owner, Siddiqullah, said.

Just like last week, the rate of gas varied from one locality to another, with a kilogram accounting for 46afs to 55 afs.

The rates of food items remained unchanged. The price of a 50-kg bag of Brazilian sugar worked out at 2,030afs.

A 50-kg bag of Pakistani flour sold for 940afs and the same amount of rice for 2,300 afs, said the Food Traders’ Union head, Fazal Rahman.

A five-kg ghee cane cost 335afs, a kilo of black tea for 185afs and the same amount of green tea 155afs, he added.

Moneychanger Ahmad Shah said the buying rate of a US dollar was 46.40afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees 541 afs. Last week’s exchange value of a greenback stood at 46.50afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 541afs.
