QALAT (PAN): Three minor girls were injured in a motor shell explosion inside their house in the Shah Joy district of southern Zabul province on Friday, police said.
The girls found the unexploded device, apparently left over from Afghanistan‘s civil war, and brought it home. It went off when they put it on fire, the provincial police chief said.
Col. Abdul Malik Wahidi told Pajhwok Afghan News the injured were taken to the district hospital. He had no information about the extent of their injuries.
Meanwhile, foreign troops based in Zabul said two suspected Taliban fighters were detained during an overnight operation in the Shahr-i-Safa district.
The operation was carried out against the insurgents involved in planting roadside bombs in the area, the international troops said in a statement.
Meanwhile, a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, claimed the fighters inflicted huge casualties on Afghan and foreign troops during attacks in Qalat, Arghandab, Shahr-i-Safa and Sewri districts, a claim dismissed by local security officials.
