PAROON/ASADABAD (PAN): One police officer was killed and two others were injured in rocket attacks in the eastern province of Nuristan, officials said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Friday night when a rocket shell landed in the Doab district headquarters, the district chief, Maulvi Taj Mohammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The injured policemen were taken to Laghman Civil Hhospital and their condition was stated to be stable, he said.

The officer was killed and one of his subordinates wounded in the strike, said the provincial police chief, Shamsur Rahman Nuristani.

Separately, five civilians including a woman and a child were injured on Saturday morning when missiles landed in their houses in Watapur district of neighbouring Kunar province.

Police official Col. Abdul Matin said the victims were taken to the Asadabad Civil Hospital.
