Rebel commander among 4 killed in Sar-i-Pul

SAR-I-PUL/ZARANJ (PAN fighters killed during a clash with local police in the northern province of Sar-i-Pul, officials said on Saturday.

The clash erupted on Friday night in the Khwaja Ygana village of Sayad district, where when the rebels attacked local force, the provincial police chief said.

Brig. Gen. Asadullah Sherzad told Pajhwok Afghan News Commander Mullah Sattar and three of his men were killed in the clash.

One local policeman was also injured in the firefight, said the Sayad district chief, Syed Mir Husain Sajjadi.

Separately, five policemen were injured in a roadside bombing in the southwestern province of Nimroz on late on Friday. Their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the Kakrak village.

Checkpoint commander, 2nd Lt. Esmatullah, said the vehicle was also damaged as a result of the blast.

The injured policemen were taken to a health) in the area. One of them is said to be in critical condition.
