QALA-I-NAW (PAN): A dozen militants and two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed during a joint operation in northwestern Badghis province, officials said on Sunday

Two ANA soldiers were wounded during the two-day offensive in the Khairkhana area of Qadis district, a National Directorate of Security official told Pajhwok Afghan News on condition of anonymity.

Local Taliban commander Abdul Hakim, who took part in the fighting, said a local security force member was also killed. The local force was supporting the army personnel, he added.

“The fighting was very intense,” said Haji Musa, a resident of the area. He had no idea of casualties, because people were barred from entering the scene.

Meanwhile, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF confirmed the clash, saying five insurgents had been killed so far in the joint operation.
