KABUL ministry squads, officials said on Sunday.

The tournaments that got under way 20 days back at the Malalai High School playgrounds featured a total of 354 girl students in 17 volleyball and eight basketball outfits.

Malik Suraya School cagers outplayed Al-Fatha rivals by 13-10 goals in the final, technical manager of the sport department at the education ministry, Abdul Wadood Kazimyan, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Similarly, Malalai spikers edged past the Suraya School by 3-2 in the volleyball final. At the end of the events, 12 cagers and 14 spikers found their way to the education ministry teams.

Malalai student Hamasa, 17, was happy about her side winning the accolades. She sought professional trainers to hone the team’s skills.

Naheed Yousafi, the Malika Suraya team coach, said the girls did not have adequate practice. She asked the ministry to set up proper playgrounds to encourage sportswomen.
