Cricket board accepts coach’s resignation

KABUL Cricket Board (ACB) announced on Monday.

Former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif, who was appointed as coach last year, resigned and refused to accompany the national squad to Canada, where they are to play a four-day match.

Ahead of the Canada tour, Afghans are scheduled to attend a training camp in Sri Lanka, the board said. Latif was asked to be with the team in Sri Lanka, but he responded in the negative.  

Following the refusal, the coach put in his papers, according to a statement from the ACB, which said Latif’s resignation had been accepted. His contract was due to expire at the end of July.

In order to fill the vacuum, the ACB has requested to appoint a Sri Lankan player as an interim Afghan coach. It praised Latif’s services to cricket promotion and his contribution to honing Afghan cricketers’ skills.
