AIBAK (PAN): After the recovery of four dead bodies, the death toll from rain-induced floods in northern Samangan has reached six, an official said on Monday.

A day earlier, two people were reported killed in the flooding that was caused by heavy rains in Dara Sauf Bala and Aibak, the provincial capital.

Dara-i-Sauf Bala district chief told Pajhwok Afghan News another five had been missing in the wake of the flood in the Marangar area. “The bodies of two women and two children were found at 10am today.”

Ahmad Ali Hasani said efforts were underway to find another missing woman. Twenty-five houses and a mosque were damaged by the flooding that washed away 35 animals.

Rockslides had blocked roads in Hassani and Qalaq valleys, he said, adding bulldozers and other machines were needed to clear the roads.

Rajab Ali Yousafi, the Natural Disaster Management Authority head for Samangan, said a team had been sent to Dara Sauf Bala to assess the losses. The victims will be compensated after the delegation submits its report.
