MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): The capital of northern Balkh province, Mazar-i-Sharif, is all set to be transferred to Afghan forces’ control, the head of the security transition process said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Governor Atta Mohammad Noor on the third day of his visit to Mazar, Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai said residents of the city were unhappy with the justice department.

The security transition process is scheduled to start next month. Ahmadzai said there had been positive and encouraging signs with regard to training and equipping Afghan forces.

He said the insurgents were unable to face security forces, hoping the transition would be a success. However, he said local forces needed more training and equipment.
