KABUL): Parliamentarians continued to observe a silence for the fourth day in a row on Tuesday in the hope to convince President Hamid Karzai to introduce his remaining Cabinet nominees.

Lawmakers passed their time by thumbing desks, reading newspapers and discussing private matters as part of their protest against Karzai’s failure to submit a list of his Cabinet choices, as well as apex court members.

As the session began, Deputy Speaker Khalid Pakhtun said the agenda for was to continue a silence until they rose for the month-long summer recess.

An MP from eastern Nangarhar province, Abdul Zahir Qadir, said they would continue their protest even after the summer recess if their call was not answered by the president.

A week back, lawmakers announced a 15-day delay in their break to help Karzai finalise the list of Cabinet choices. “We don’t need a recess. It is more important to have a complete Cabinet,” Qadir said.
