14 die of cholera in Zabul
QALAT (PAN): Fourteen people have died of cholera and roughly 70 others have been infected in southern Zabul province, officials confirmed on Saturday.
The recent epidemic spread within days, Deputy Governor Mohammad Jan Rasulyar said.
He said health officials could not travel to insecure areas by roads. Health officials had asked the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to provide them with helicopters so that they could take patients to hospitals, he said.
Seven infected people had been taken to Kandahar hospital, he said.
A team of doctors was ready to be sent to areas where the disease was spreading fast, Public Health Director Dr. Suliman Safi said.
