3 Pakistani troops, 4 militants killed in Mohmand clash

ISLAMABAD (PAN border on Sunday, an official said.

Nearly 20 militants attacked a security checkpoint in the Mohmand agency of Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas, killing three soldiers and injuring more than a dozen others, a local Mohmand official, Manhajuddin, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The attack took place in Dad village, he said. The injured troops were taken to a hospital in helicopters. Three of them are in a critical condition, the official said.

Another official, Syed Mohammad Mohmand, said four of the attackers were killed when the troops returned fire. Another 10 were wounded, he said.

Resident Haji Mena Gul said the attackers had used heavy weapons during the assault.

Insurgents have stepped up their attacks against government forces in Pakistan following the May 2 operation that killed the Al Qaeda leader, Osama bin Laden, in the Pakistani garrison town of Abbotabad.
