Airstrike in Balkh, attempted land mine attack thwarted in Kabul

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN-led troops in northern Balkh province, an official said on Sunday.

The air raid was carried out in the Qazal Kenat area of Sholgar district late on Saturday, Sayed Niamatullah Masab, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

ISAF local commander was the target.

Elsewhere, five insurgents were detained on the charge of planting mines in the capital Kabul, police said on Sunday.

The men had planted land mines beneath the Hasham Khan Bridge in the Mosahi district. They were arrested during a search operation by police in the area, Col. Mohammad Zahir, the 101 Asmai Kabul Zone police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The bombs were later defused, he said, adding, three hand grenades, a mine and a motorcycle were recovered from the insurgents.
