MAIDAN SHAHR (PAN-fired rocket attack in central Maidan Wardak province on Monday, officials said. There were no precise figures for the number of dead and wounded.

The casualties occurred in the Pirdad area of Narkh district before the noon, the governor’s spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said that the casualties included women and children.

The attack occurred when a convoy of foreign troops was passing through the area during a joint patrol with Afghan forces, the governor’s spokesman said.

The injured were taken to a health facility for foreign troops, he added.

Residents recounted the incident differently, blaming foreign troops for the civilian casualties.

Ziaul Haq, a resident, said some children were sitting in the shade when aircraft dropped bombs on them. He said the dead included two children, one of them a girl, and counted 11 children wounded.
