1 killed, 6 injured in tribal clash

Jun 22, 2011 - 17:04

JALALABAD (PANinfo-icon): One person was killed and six others injured during a clash between two tribes in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Wednesday.

The clash took place in the Batikot district between the Sepai Daman and Kuchiinfo-icon tribes. Both sides suffered casualties, Israrullah Qarizada, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The Sepai Daman tribal elder, Haji Farooq, said that the incident occurred because of a dispute over ownership the Kodiaman field. Farooq disputed the official account, saying that two people had been killed.

District hospital chief Dr. Fattah confirmed that one dead body and four injured people had been brought to the hospital.

The governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai said that the provincial headquarters had detained several people of the disputants.

Malik Habibullah, the Batikot district's tribal council chief, said that the fighting had stopped. He claimed to have seen personally one dead body and three injured people from the Sepai Daman tribe.
