GHAZNI: In southern Ghazni province, police shot dead an alleged robber during a shootout in Shamir area of Ghazni City Friday night, Police Chief Col. Zarawar Zahid, said. Two others fled without stealing anything.

The store's owner, Mohammad Zahir, said three robbers came to the store and introduced themselves as intelligence officials. They then tied up the guards and ransacked the store.

One of the guards was able to free himself and informed police at a nearby checkpoint.

HERAT: A Talibaninfo-icon commander, Mullahinfo-icon Juma, was detained on Saturday with two of his fighters by NDSinfo-icon officials in the western province of Herat, provincial Governor Daud Shah Sabah said.

The militants were detained with 200 kilograms of nitrate explosives, a remote control device, a gas cylinder, and electric wires in the Shidayee area on the outskirts of Herat City, he said.

The commander was a resident of neibouring Badghis province planning an attack on the city, an NDS official said on condition of anonymity.

KABULinfo-icon: A commander was among 22 rebels who surrendered to authorities in Sarobi district of central Kabul province, an official said on Saturday.

Led by the group’s commander, Gul Nazak, and his deputy, Yar Mohammad, the militants had been actively fighting against the government in the Lagarlam and Bazargkhel areas of the Wazbin valley, District Chief Hazrat Mohammad Haqbin told Pajhwok Afghan News.

KUNDUZ: The death toll has been raised for a Friday suicide attack on an ice cream shop in northern Kunduz province. Officials now believe that at least 10 people were been killed and 24 injured, according to a statement issued by the Interior Ministry on Saturday.

Yesterday the Interior Ministry said that six people had been killed. But four people who had been wounded in the blast later died of their injuries, said Interior Ministry spokesman Sadeq Saddeqi.

KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA: Fifteen people were killed and seven others injured in clashes between two rival insurgent groups in the Orakzai tribal region of Pakistaninfo-icon, which lies close to the Afghan border, residents said.

Government official Syed Ali said the clashes had broken out between fighters loyal to a local Taliban commander, Mullah Tofan, and his rival commander Mullah Nabi. Resident Tariqullah said the two groups have been fighting each other over control of the area.

LOGAR: Over 30 people have been killed and dozens injured in a suicide attack on a hospital in central Logar province.

The attack occurred Saturday morning when a truck filled with explosives was driven into the Azrah district's central hospital. Among those killed were employees, guards and patients, Abdul Wali, the provincial council chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
