KABUL): Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre visited President Hamid Karzai at the Presidential Palace in Kabul on Sunday, Karzai’s Office said.

Afghan Foreign Minister Dr. Zalmay Rassoul and National Security Adviser Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta were also present on the occasion, a statement issued from the Presidential Palace said.

Karzai and Støre discussed in detail issues concerning the ongoing  peace process, the security transition plan and relations between the two countries, the statement said.

The visiting dignitary said Norway would continue to provide Afghanistan assistance in various fields. He said his country was interested in long-term strategic cooperation with Afghanistan.

Karzai called Norway one of Afghanistan’s best friends, saying the country had had a key role in Afghanistan’s reconstruction over the past several years.
