JALALABAD (PAN, a senior official said on Tuesday.

The blockade ended on Monday after a 60-member jirga of tribal elders held talks with the insurgents, Nuristan Governor Jamaluddin Badr told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said four trucks carrying food items had reached Paroon, the provincial capital, after the insurgents allowed vehicles to use the route.

The governor asked the central government and US-led coalition troops to launch an operation in Nuristan districts, which border Kunar.

Meanwhile, Provincial Council Chief Mazhab Yar suggested the government should open a branch of the High Peace Council in Nuristan.

An official said that the cost of daily-use commodities had dropped in Paroon since the highway had reopened.

Nuristan Deputy Governor Mohammad Nabi Ahmadzai told Pajhwok Afghan News a 5 kg tin of ghee and 7 kg sack of sugar cost 1000 afghanis, compared with their previous cost of 1200 and 1500 afghanis respectively two days ago.

A 50-kg sack of flour cost 3000 afs compared with its previous cost of 4000afs two days ago, Ahmadzai said.

He said merchants could now transport commercial goods on the highway without any problem.
