KABUL): The head of Transition Coordination Commission, Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, on Wednesday said the armed opposition could not derail the security transition plan despite a major assault on a luxury hotel in Kabul.
The process is scheduled to begin in July and expected to be complete by 2014.
Ghani was addressing a conference convened to discuss preparations for the transition plan in Kabul, as well as the security situation, governance, the judiciary and the rule of law.
Defence Minister Abdul Rahim Wardak, Interior Minister Bismillah Mohammadi, National Directorate of Security Chief Rahmatullah Nabil, governors of several provinces, police chiefs and other senior government officials attended the first day of the two-day conference.
He said participants discussed the elements of a successful transition plan and what it would take to implement it.
Ghani praised the governors of Balkh, Herat, Bamyan, Laghman, Panjsier and Kabul for paving the way for the security transfer from foreign troops to local forces.
Ghani said attacks like yesterday’s on the Kabul Intercontinental Hotel would not jeopardise the transition plan.
